Step 2: Earn Renown
In this step, you must roll a dice for each fighter in your warband that took part in the battle and that doesn’t have the BEAST or THRALL keyword. This is called a renown roll. You may add 1 to the roll for each of the following that applies:
- The fighter wasn’t taken out of action during the battle.
- The fighter took an enemy fighter out of action during the battle
On a 6+, the fighter earns a level of renown. In addition, you can select 1 fighter in your warband to be marked for greatness. Make 2 renown rolls for that fighter, instead of 1.
- When a
Heroearns a level of renown, they can either improve a characteristic or select a heroic talent. - When a
Henchmanearns a level of renown, they can improve a characteristic. However, they cannot improve each characteristic more than once.
When a Henchman earns their fourth level of renown, they are promoted to a Hero. They immediately lose the Henchman keyword and gain the Hero keyword instead, and may either improve a characteristic or select a heroic talent.
Improve Characteristic
When improving a characteristic, select one of the fighter's characteristics and increase it by 1. The Health characteristic increases in increments of 2 instead. For Bravery, where a lower value is better, decrease it by 1 instead. A fighter's characteristics can never be improved beyond their racial limit:
Racial Limits
| Keyword | Move | Fight | Shoot | Health | Bravery |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Human | 6” | 6 | 6 | 24 | 3+ |
Skaven | 8” | 6 | 6 | 20 | 5+ |
Vampire | 8” | 8 | 6 | 30 | 2+ |
Ghoul | 6” | 6 | 3 | 24 | 4+ |
Daemon | 8” | 8 | 4 | 30 | 2+ |
Heroic Talents
A Hero may select a Heroic Talent from any of the following specializations. A fighter cannot select heroic talents from more than two specializations, and can never have more than five heroic talents.
