Renown

As fighters gain experience in battle, their skill and notoriety grows. This is represented in the game as renown. Whenever a fighter accumulates 4 experience points, they gain 1 level of renown.

  • When a Hero gains renown, they can either make a characteristics increase or select a talent.
  • When a Henchman gains renown, they can make a characteristics increase. However, they cannot increase a characteristic more than once.
    • When a Henchman gains their fourth level of renown they are promoted to a Hero
    • The fighter immediately looses the Henchman Keyword and gain the Hero keyword instead, and may either make a characteristics increase, or select a talent.

Characteristic Increase

To make a characteristic increase, you must select one of the fighter’s characteristics and increase it by 1 (The Health characteristic is increased in increments of 2). A fighter’s characteristics cannot be increased beyond their racial limit.

Talents

Where characteristics represent a fighter’s raw physical capabilities, Talents represent the skills, techniques and tricks they have learned throughout their career. Most Talents are traits, meaning that their  effects are applied automatically when their conditions are met. Some Talents instead grant a fighter a new Reaction or Ability, as indicated in their description.

Talents are grouped into five Specialisations:

A fighter cannot select Talents from more than two Specialisations, and can never have more than a total of five talents.
