The Battle Round
Battles are fought in a series of rounds referred to as battle rounds, each of which is split into three phases: the initiative phase , the combat phase and the end of round phase.
The initiative phase
The players roll for initiative and gather ability dice.
The combat phase
The warbands clash as the players take turns activating their fighters.
The end phase
The players check the victory conditions and warband morale, before starting a new battle round.
Battle length
Unless the scenario states otherwise, battles last for at least four battle rounds. At the end of the fourth battle round, roll a dice: On a 1-2, the battle ends. On a 3+, the battle continues for a fifth battle round.
Winning the battle
At the end of the final battle round, you must check the scenario victory conditions. If one warband has fulfilled the victory conditions, it has won the battle. If not, the battle is a draw.
The aftermath sequence
Unless playing a one-off battle, both players should resolve an aftermath sequence.
